Sphero mint robot Ollie App Controlled
This App controlled Sphero mint robot Ollie is so much fun indeed !
This sphero is so much fun! I’ve had it for three days now and love it. I took it outside and it handled well. It can go on dirt, but it will get stuck sometimes. I drove it in grass that had dew on it and it was fine.
It works great on concrete. (flat is best) I have a ramp that is about 6″ tall and it can Catch air. (It took me forever to line it up so it would hit the jump) the tires come off fairly easy, but the hub caps are tricky. When you download the app their is a ‘help’ section and it recommends to use a coin to pull of the hub caps but it is really hard. I’ve only managed to do it once. (I’ve tried it multiple times but eventually gave up and just played with it.) it drive very fast on flat surfaces. I tried racing it with my brother, but I have not quiet perfected the driving and I couldn’t tell who was faster.
The controls are very easy to learn, but they are hard to master. You can redirect Ollie, at the bottom right hand corner of your screen when you are driving Ollie there is a button that has two arrows pointing in opposite directions. It allows you to tell Ollie which way is forward. He’s got quiet an attitude, whe you name him almost every time you give him a name he says something like “that’s the worst name I’ve ever heard.”
The best I got was “this name is exceptable” if you dont drive him in drive mode for a little, he will start spinning and moving around (it looks like he’s agitated when he does it. It scared me the first time because I didn’t know he would do that. Ollie is very durable. If you are worried you will break him, you have nothing to worry about. I’ve ran him into walls, the Refrigerator, doors, I’ve rolled him down stairs, I accidentally drove him off a 3-4 foot ledge that had a slate walk way at the bottom and he was fine. If you turn your devise (phone/tablet) a trick pad appears. If you swipe it sideways, down or to the side, he will spin and bounce around.
The trick pad is great if ollie is stuck, if he’s not stuck too badly he can maneuver out of the spot. Ollie is great. If you are looking into it, you should get it. It’s so much fun to drive him around and do tricks. It’s very durable and fast. I’m going to take it to the skate park tomorrow and I can’t wait. I’ll try to remeber to say how it fared at the skate park. Until then, ponder on wether or not you would like to get Ollie. I went to the skate park today (11/6/16) and it was awesome! I drove it on the half pipe and on the jumps and it was great, it caught air and didn’t break even though I ran it into so many things
